Partnership changes at The Little Surgery

We are pleased to announce that from 1st April 2012, Dr Melanie Denton will be joining Dr John Fields as one of the GP partners in the Practice.

Dr Ruth Livingstone will be leaving the partnership. As many of our patients have noticed, Dr Livingstone has been spending very little time within the practice due to other commitments. We wish her well in the future.

Flu jabs for the winter

Protect yourself against flu and get a flu jab this winter.

Open clinics, just turn up:
Thursday 6th October 2011, 9:00am to 3:00pm.
Saturday 15th October 2011, 8:30am to 10:30am.

We particularly recommend the flu jab for people with respiratory problems and other long-term conditions. These include:

asthma
bronchitis and empysema
heart conditions
diabetes
kidney problems
people on long-term steroids
reduced or low immunity

We also recommend the flu jab for pregnant women.

Part-Time Receptionist

New Practice Manager

We had many strong candidates for the post of Practice Manager and we are pleased to announce that we have appointed Kay Hircock to the position.

Kay started on the 1st June 2011 and we are very pleased to have her on our team. Kay has extensive experience within the NHS, having worked in Peterborough and Stamford Hospitals Trust and with provider services in Peterborough PCT.

Swine Flu vaccines available at The Little Surgery

There are no ordinary Flu jabs left. We do have Swine Flu jabs left over from last year. These are safe to use this year and will protect you from the Swine flu strain of flu.

We are recommending the Swine Flu vaccination for the following people:

Children under five
Anybody over 65
Pregnant ladies, at any stage in their pregnancy
People with heart disease, diabetes, asthma, chronic lung problems, immune deficiency or other serious diseases

If you would like the Swine Flu jab, please speak to the receptionist NOW!

Please note:
If you already had the ordinary Flu jab this year, this will also protect you against Swine Flu. You don't need another jab.
If you had the Swine Flu jab last year, you are still protected this year. You don't need another jab.

The "Eat Well, Move More" Little Surgery programme has come to the end of its first year. We are delighted with the results.

At the outset, we decided the scheme would be successful if 33% of participants achieved a 12lb weight loss by the end of the program. 41 patients actively participated in the programme.

We are very pleased to report that:

15 patients (37% of participants) lost at least 12 lb in weight.
A further 5 patients lost some weight, although they did not achieve the full 12 lb target.
We paid out nearly £1,000 in reimbursements for gym and diet club membership.

Well done everyone!

This programme was not just about weight loss. We hoped people would become fitter and healthier as a result of participating. And we hoped that with a new confidence in themselves, their good habits would continue.

For some people, this has been a life changing event. We also know, from patient’s comments that the impact of the scheme has extended beyond the individuals involved, as many have reported that their whole family has benefited.

Eat Well - Move More - Live Longer

This is a national NHS campaign to help people eat better and become more active. This will result in a healthier and fitter you. Particularly useful for people who are overweight and are looking to become slimmer.
